The League of Arab States on Sunday called for increased Arab and international support for Palestinian education as it opened the 111th session of the Committee on Educational Programs for Arab Students in the Occupied Arab Territories at its headquarters in Cairo.
Speaking at the opening session, Ambassador Dr. Faed Mustafa, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Sector, said the Palestinian education system continues to face unprecedented challenges amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories.
Mustafa said schools, universities, teachers, students and educational infrastructure have been severely affected by the conflict, describing the situation as one of the most serious crises facing the Palestinian education sector in its history. He also highlighted the impact of damage to facilities operated by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and the broader challenges confronting educational institutions in both Gaza and the West Bank.
Addressing representatives of Arab states and regional organizations participating in the meeting, Mustafa stressed that protecting education is a shared national, humanitarian and moral responsibility. He called for coordinated efforts by local, regional and international institutions to support students and teachers, rebuild damaged schools and ensure access to safe and stable learning environments.
