Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit welcomed a call by Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad Al-Alimi to hold a comprehensive conference in Riyadh aimed at resolving the southern Yemen issue.
In a statement released Jan. 3, 2026, Aboul Gheit praised Saudi Arabia’s prompt agreement to host the talks, which seek fair solutions with the participation of southern political components. Spokesperson Gamal Roshdy noted that Aboul Gheit described the southern issue as having "well-known historical dimensions" that must be addressed within a unified Yemeni framework.
The Arab League cautioned against "imposing faits accomplis," warning that such actions risk further national fragmentation. The organization reaffirmed its commitment to Yemen’s unity and territorial integrity, aligning with previous resolutions on the ongoing crisis.
