The Arab League participated in a meeting of Dubai’s General Directorate of Civil Defense, reaffirming its support for the “Billion Readiness” initiative and the launch of a Global Alliance for Artificial Intelligence in Firefighting and Safety.
The meeting brought together regional and international stakeholders to discuss civil protection, community preparedness and disaster response amid rising natural and technological risks.
Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Malki, assistant secretary-general of the Arab League and head of its Economic Affairs Sector, said the gathering comes at a critical time as climate change, rapid urbanization and technological hazards intensify disaster risks across the Arab region.
Al-Malki stressed that prevention, preparedness and rapid response now require effective partnerships and collective approaches that go beyond short-term reactions. He underscored the importance of harnessing artificial intelligence to enhance early warning systems, firefighting capabilities and public safety, while strengthening regional and global cooperation in civil defense.
