The Council of Arab Health Ministers called for continued Arab efforts to provide humanitarian and medical support to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and thanked Egypt for its role in supporting the health sector in Gaza.
The call came at the conclusion of the council’s 64th session, held in Geneva on the sidelines of the 79th World Health Assembly, according to a statement issued by the Arab League.
The council assigned its technical secretariat to continue coordination with Egypt’s Ministry of Health to deliver medical supplies needed by the Palestinian health sector through the Arab Health Development Fund. Arab countries, financial institutions, and donor organizations were also urged to continue providing urgent support for the healthcare sector in Palestine.
The meeting approved several decisions, including support for health conditions in the occupied Palestinian territories, backing for Yemen’s blood transfusion centers, and the establishment of an annual “Arab Day for a Burn-Free Humanity” on March 7.
The council also approved the 2026 Arab Doctor Awards and introduced a new annual “Medicine of Resilience” award honoring doctors working under humanitarian crises, granting its first edition to Palestinian doctor Hussam Abu Safiya for his work in Gaza.
