The 28th Conference of the Arab Archaeologists’ Council opened Friday under the chairmanship of Dr. Mohamed Al-Kahallawi, bringing together experts and researchers on November 22–23 at the council’s headquarters in Sheikh Zayed.
Dr. Al-Kahallawi said the conference will address major threats facing archaeological heritage across the Arab region, noting severe damage and attempts to erase cultural identity in Palestine, Sudan, Lebanon and Yemen.
The council said more than 120 research papers will be presented, covering archaeology, museums, history, civilizations, and restoration sciences, with sessions highlighting the impact of conflict on artifacts and archaeological sites.
The Arab Archaeologists’ Council holds civil society membership in the Arab League, permanent membership in the Arab Lawyers Union, and recognition as a regional expert body by ALECSO. The Arab League’s Department of Palestine has entrusted the council with the Jerusalem heritage file, and the Association of Arab Universities recognizes it as one of its principal councils.
