The Arab Parliament and the African Parliament have strongly condemned the recent Israeli assault on the State of Qatar, describing it as a blatant violation not only against Qatar but against all Arab and African nations, as well as international legitimacy. The two bodies stressed that the act represents a serious breach of the United Nations Charter and international law.

Emergency Meeting in Cairo

The joint condemnation came in a statement issued after an emergency meeting in Cairo between Mohammed bin Ahmed Al-Yamahi, President of the Arab Parliament, and Chief Charumbira, President of the African Parliament. The meeting addressed escalating regional developments, particularly Israel’s attack on Qatar, alongside the ongoing war crimes committed against Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.

Condemnation of Genocide and International Silence

The two parliaments denounced what they called Israel’s policy of genocide, ethnic cleansing, starvation, and systematic war crimes, which continue to claim the lives of thousands of innocent civilians, most of them women and children. They further condemned the persistent international silence and lack of accountability, which they argued has emboldened Israel to continue its aggressive policies.

Call for International Action

The Arab and African Parliaments called on the international community, especially the United Nations and the Security Council, to intervene immediately to halt Israel’s crimes against Palestinians and Arab states. They voiced support for South Africa’s case against Israel at the International Court of Justice, urging more nations to join in defense of international law.

Praise for Arab States’ Stance

The joint statement also praised the positions of Egypt and Jordan, which firmly rejected any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians from their land and resisted moves aimed at undermining the Palestinian cause.

Push for UN Reform

The two parliaments urged global recognition of the State of Palestine during the upcoming UN General Assembly session and demanded reforms within the United Nations system, particularly the Security Council. They called for abolishing the veto power, arguing that it has shifted from a tool to preserve peace into one that shields violations of international law.

They concluded by demanding the suspension of Israel’s membership in international and regional organizations and labeling it a pariah entity within the global community.
