Apple accidentally left details of a new 5.5-inch budget iPhone in beta code for iOS 14 which is understood to launch alongside the hotly anticipated iPhone 9 / iPhone SE2. This means the new models could arrive in just weeks.

While the naming remains speculative, the move would see Apple effectively revive the branding used from the iPhone 6 to the iPhone 8 and both the new models are understood to adopt their older design, along with Touch ID instead of Face ID. That said, their primary specs will be cutting edge, according to Apple firm.

Meanwhile, Apple on Wednesday, unveiled new hardware, as was previously rumored, including the 2020 MacBook Air, and the brand new iPad Pro models.

The iPads offer a variety of improvements over the 2018 iPad Pro generations, including a dual-lens camera system that features a third depth-sensing LiDAR sensor, trackpad support, as well as a brand new Magic Keyboard with an interesting floating design and an additional USB-C port for battery charging.

But there’s even more to the 2020 iPad Pro story, as the new tablet’s specs might contain key clues for what’s coming to the iPhone 12 series later this year.

It would represent a huge leap for the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max. The ToF camera will also help the iPhone 12 Pro phones in taking on the threat from competing Android flagships in the market, many of which already come equipped with this particular lens.

When the iPhone XR launched in September 2018 some viewed it as a possible replacement for the SE. But that handset has a considerably higher price, although it was recently reduced to £629/$599 and is considerably larger. Right now the smallest option is the iPhone 8, with its 4.7in display priced at £479/$449.

The rumours predict for the new iPhone features which including; 4.7in display, A13 chip, 3GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, an updated LCP antenna for improved wireless performance, Space Grey, Red and Silver finishes as well as touch ID not face ID.

Meanwhile, a new concept illustration shows this device as a modified iPhone 8 with frosted glass on the rear.
