The Associated Press (AP), reported that prosecutors in 11 states across the US have filed a lawsuit against the Biden administration to defy mandatory orders for a new vaccine for workers at companies with more than 100 employees.

The lawsuit, filed in the US Court of Appeals in St. Louis, argues that the authority for vaccination rests with states only, not the federal government.

The text of the lawsuit is being filed by Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmidt, one of a number of Republicans vying for a seat in the US Senate next year, said the mandatory order was unconstitutional, illegal, and unwise.

New regulations issued by the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration state that companies with more than 100 employees require their workers to be vaccinated against COVID 19 or to take a weekly test to detect the virus and wear a mask while working.

This will be implemented starting from the fourth of next January, and violations of it can reach penalties of up to 14 thousand dollars.

Schmidt said Missouri has 3,443 private employers that can be covered by vaccine requirements, which is roughly 1.3 million employees.

He pointed out that he sued the Federal government to protect personal liberties, preserving businesses, and confront bureaucratic tyrants who only want power and control.

The Biden administration has been promoting mass vaccinations as the fastest way out of the epidemic.

A White House spokeswoman said the mandatory order was aimed at stopping the spread of the disease, which has killed 750,000 people in the United States so far.

In addition to Missouri, Republican attorneys general from Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming participated in the lawsuit. The Iowa Democratic Attorney's Office has joined the lawsuit along with a number of private and not-for-profit employers
