Antiquities Ministry to Develop Dandara Temple Area(Photo)

CAIRO, Jan. 14 (SEE) - Ministry of Antiquities started a project to develop the area around the Dandara temple in Qena in order to turn it into an open museum.

Dr. Mostafa Waziri, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, announced that the project in cooperation with the French archaeological mission in the Dandara archeology area has completed the first phase of the project.

The phase included the installation of 9 stone terraces on the left side from the main entrance gate to the temple. The temple contains some statues and archeological elements, such as; the god Bas , Hathor, Nkhbt and Wyatt statues.

Abd El-Hakim El-Saghir, director general of the Dandara temple, announced that the pieces that will be displayed on the terraces are located in the temple area. Most of them were the result of previous archeological excavations in the area which were carried out on the land of the temple since its discovery. He confirmed that the terraces work in a manner that fits with the archaeological character of the area .

El-Saghir added that that it is scheduled to complete the work and put the rest of the blocks archaeological elements located in the temple. The temple has another statue of the god with a pedestal, a carved marble tablet and all these large pieces.
