American actress-singer Anna Kendrick is set to star in Netflix's movie, "Rodney & Sheryl".
Directed by Chloe Okuno, the movie is based on the true story of the serial killer, Rodney Alcala, who was in the midst of a killing spree in 1978 when he brazenly took part and won a date on the popular TV game show "The Dating Game". Kendrick will play Cheryl Bradshaw, the contestant.

At that time, Alcala had murdered five women and been convicted of the attempted murder of a 12-year-old girl, but he made it onto the show because background checks were not severe enough.
In 1980, he was sentenced to death for murder and investigators found hundreds of photos of women, girls, and boys, as well as keepsakes in a storage locker that police believed belonged to his victims.
Alcala appealed several times but was tied to more murders when advances in DNA were made. His execution postponed indefinitely when California declared a moratorium on death penalty cases in 2019. Detectives have estimated he may have killed as many as 130 people.
He is currently serving time in state prison in Corcoran, CA.
