Angolan President João Lourenço has officially taken over the rotating presidency of the African Union (AU) during the 38th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government.
He succeeds Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, who previously held the AU chairmanship.
In his inaugural address, Lourenço emphasized the importance of African unity and stronger cooperation among nations.
He highlighted his commitment to tackling some of the continent’s most pressing challenges, including conflict resolution, economic development, and climate change adaptation.
His leadership will focus on strengthening diplomatic ties, enhancing regional economic collaboration, and fostering greater stability across Africa.
