Andy Burnham Unveils New UK Cabinet

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham has announced his new cabinet after taking office, naming senior Labor figures to lead key government departments following the resignation of Keir Starmer.

Ed Miliband was appointed Foreign Secretary, Wes Streeting became Defense Secretary, and John Healey was named Chancellor of the Exchequer. Shabana Mahmood retained the role of Home Secretary, while Yvette Cooper was appointed Health Secretary and Alex Norris took over as Justice Secretary.

Jonathan Reynolds will lead the Business, Innovation, Science and Trade department, Lucy Powell was named Education Secretary, and Heidi Alexander remains Transport Secretary. Pat McFadden retained responsibility for Work and Pensions, while Miatta Fahnbulleh was appointed Energy Security and Net Zero Secretary.

Angela Rayner will serve as Housing Secretary, Lisa Nandy remains Culture Secretary, and Angela Eagle was appointed Environment Secretary. Louise Haigh was named First Secretary of State, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and Cabinet Office Minister.

Chris Bryant became Northern Ireland Secretary, Stephen Kinnock was appointed Wales Secretary, and Douglas Alexander retained the Scotland portfolio. Alan Campbell remains Leader of the House of Commons, Angela Smith continues as Leader of the House of Lords, Anneliese Midgley was named Chief Whip, and Ellie Reeves was appointed Attorney General.

Burnham assumed office on Monday after being invited by King Charles III to form a government at Buckingham Palace, marking the beginning of a new Labor administration.
