Amr Moussa, the former General Secretary of the Arab League, returned back to Cairo this morning after a two-day visit to the headquarters of the African Union (AU) in Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia.
On the second day of his visit, Moussa participated in a session held in the main hall of the African Peace and Security Council, chaired by the former President of Burundi along with the Board of Africa’s Sages.
Also, the Commissaire of the African Peace and Security Ambassador, Bankuli Addui, took part in that session as well as a number of African Union officials and the African Commission.
Those officials participate either in person or via video conference technology.
The AU session discussed a number of challenges facing peace and security in the five African regions, such as instability in some African countries, climate and economic challenges, and fighting epidemics.
Moussa discussed the views representing North Africa on a number of issues.
And he also stressed the importance of working with international civil society organizations that are already working inside Africa to maximize the positive role they play and to help governments and peoples.
During his interventions, Moussa stressed that the African Union is the home of Africa, a strong and well-established organization that is getting stronger every day, but this will only continue with the faith and work of African countries and peoples to strengthen their union to be a voice expressing African interests and a platform for the parties to gather for joint African action.
During the second session, Moussa participated in a meeting with Kasuma Minata Samati, Commissioner of the African Union for Health, Social and Humanitarian Affairs, where she presented a report on the epidemiological situation on the African continent and African efforts for cooperation in the health field, as well as the steps taken to establish the African Medicines Agency (AMA), as well as the efforts of the African Center for Disease Control and Africa (CDC).
The meeting also touched on the problems of migration, refugees, and displaced persons within the continent, especially since 60% of cases of migration and displacement occur within the continent and not outside it, with the problems and burdens that the Union must deal with.
