Amitabh Bachchan to Star in ‘The Intern’ Bollywood Remake

Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan will star alongside Deepika Padukone in the long-planned Hindi remake of the 2015 film "The Intern".

Bachchan will play the Robert De Niro role, which was previously set to be played by Rishi Kapoor before he suddenly died in April 2020, while Padukone will play the role of Anne Hathaway.

The original movie stars Hathaway as a workaholic CEO of an online fashion website who strikes up an unlikely friendship with a 70-year-old widower who becomes the company’s latest intern.

Directed by Nancy Meyers, “The Intern” allocated $194 million globally.

The remake is now slated to begin shooting in November 2021, which is set to hit theaters in summer 2022.

The project, which arrives from Warner Bros India and Athena, will be directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma from a screenplay adapted by Akshat Ghildial and Mitesh Shah.

Amit Ravindernath Sharma and Gaurav Bose will co-produce the movie along with Sunir Kheterpal and Deepika Padukone.

“The Intern” is part of an ongoing agreement between Warner and Azure Entertainment, to identify, develop, produce, and distribute Warner Bros movies for Indian audiences.
