Amir El-Masry Named Among BAFTA's Breakthrough Stars

On Monday, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) announced its 2020 BAFTA Breakthroughs list, which included Egyptian British award-winning actor, Amir El-Masry.

On Tuesday, El-Masry took to Instagram to thank the academy, saying: "Thank you @bafta for this incredible accolade and your continuous support. Huge privilege to be announced as one of this year’s BAFTA Breakthrough Brits alongside my Limbo Director/Writer and Producer @ben.sharrock & @igurtubai,".

Bafta Breakthrough participants include 34 rising stars of film, TV, and video games in both the UK and US.

"BAFTA Breakthrough showcases and supports the next generation of creative talent in film, games, and television in the UK, China, India, and the US," the academy explains on its website.

Those in the UK's Breakthrough group will receive a one-year voting Bafta membership, which gives them access to Bafta events, and screenings, as well as access to the members' space in London.

The participants were selected by a jury including, Amma Asante, Edward Enninful, Melissa Johns, and Fiona Shaw.
