An American intelligence report accused on Tuesday the Iranian authorities of trying to interfere in the US presidential elections, as commissioned by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, with the aim of preventing Donald Trump's re-election.

The report, published by the Office of the US Director of National Intelligence, said that Iran had launched a "multi-faceted covert campaign" aimed at "undermining" Trump's chances for re-election, as well as "eroding " society's confidence in the American election process and institutions.

The intelligence considered that Iran was seeking, through these actions, to "sow discord and inflame social tensions" in the United States of America (USA).

American intelligence concluded that these actions were carried out by Iranian intelligence and the military, on the authority of the Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The American intelligence report also included accusations against Russia, China, Cuba, Venezuela, and the Lebanese "Hezbollah" of interfering in the elections, but it was claimed that Russia and Iran were the ones who made an effort.

Avril Haines, Director of the National Intelligence Service said that malign foreign influence is a constant challenge facing the USA.

"The efforts made by the adversaries of the country aim to exacerbate pisions and undermine confidence in our democratic institutions, Haines said."

She stressed that "addressing this continuing challenge requires a complete government approach based on an accurate understanding of the problem, which we seek with such assessments to provide."

On the other hand, Trump announced that he intends to make a final decision about the possibility of his second candidacy for the presidency, after the midterm elections for Congress in the country.

In a statement to Fox News, Trump said: "According to all polls, they want me to run again. But we will see, and we will think about it."

He has expressed confidence that Republicans have a chance to regain control of both houses of the US Congress after the midterm elections in 2022.
