American Airlines shares fell 4% this morning after a regional airliner collided with a military helicopter, marking the first fatal commercial plane crash on U.S. soil since 2009.
In the wake of this tragic event, American Airlines (AAL) shares have come under significant pressure. In pre-market trading today, shares were down about 3%, reflecting investor concerns about safety protocols and operational integrity in the wake of such a catastrophic incident.
Timothy Lilley, a former military helicopter pilot, confirmed that his 28-year-old son, Sam Lilley, was one of the two pilots on the American Airlines flight.
Also, the victims of the deadly mid-air collision in Washington, D.C., included two 16-year-old figure skaters, their mothers and two Russian coaches.
"Russian former skating stars Yevgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov were on the plane," their club in Boston confirmed.
