Ambassador Salih Mutlu Şen highlighted the resilience of the Turkish people in defending their national will and democracy.
During a celebration at the Turkish Embassy in Cairo for the "Day of Democracy and National Unity" on July 15, notable diplomatic, Egyptian, and Turkish figures attended.
The event featured videos and a photo exhibition showcasing the resistance against the failed coup attempt led by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on July 15, 2016.
Ambassador Şen stressed that Turkey's response to the coup has significantly matured and strengthened its democracy. He cited Turkey’s history of coups, particularly the 1960 coup against the democratically elected government of Adnan Menderes, which resulted in Menderes' execution.
Such events, Şen noted, have cemented the collective memory and resolve of the Turkish people.
On the economic front, Ambassador Şen forecasted an enhanced cooperation between Turkey and Egypt, highlighting the anticipated visit of Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to Cairo for talks with his Egyptian counterpart, Dr. Badr Abdel Aaty.
He also pointed to the increased interest of Turkish investors in Egypt, facilitated by the successful ministerial leadership in transportation and industry, which could ease the entry of Turkish textile investors into the Egyptian market.
The ambassador concluded by mentioning expected collaborations in cultural, social, and sports activities, underscoring a shared intent to elevate bilateral engagement in the coming year.
