The Egyptian General Book Organization, headed by Dr. Haitham al-Haj, recently issued the book entitled “Alienation In The Novels of Naguib Mahfouz” by Dr. Mona Barakat.

The book deals with the phenomenon of political alienation in the prototypes of Mahfouz novels, which appears clearly on the personal level and his vision.

The author chose many phases of Mahfouz writings; from the novels of the 1930’s , she chose “ Kifah Thebes, and from the 1940s, she chose “New Cairo”.

From the novels of the fifties, she chose” Al- Soukarya” and the novel “The Thief And The Dogs”. From the sixties and the seventies, she chose the novel “The Mirrors”. From the eighties, she chose more than a novel including: “ Afrah Al- Koba”,” the journey of Ibn Fatuma” and “Qashtumr”.

It is worthy of note that the book is pided into three chapters: the first deals with the reasons and motives behind the political alienation in Naguib Mahfouz's novels; the second deals with the different aspects of political alienation in Naguib Mahfouz's novels and the third answers the question about the results of the political alienation in Naguib Mahfouz's novels.
