Egyptian superstar, Ali El Haggar performed Thursday evening at the 28th edition of Citadel Festival for Music and Singing, amid a large crowd.

The annual music festival, which runs from August 18 to September 1, is held under the auspices of Minister of Culture، Dr. Enas Abdel Daim, and Head of the Opera House Magdy Saber.

Ali, 65, performed a number of his famous songs including، “El liel w Akhro”, “Risha ”, “Bent W Walad”, “Dehket El Masageen”, and others.

The Minister of Culture recently increased the ticket sales outlets of the festival to accommodate the largest audience, which exceeded 15 thousand viewers on the third day of its activities.

El Haggar was born on April 4, 1954, in Imbaba, Giza. He is an Egyptian singer, artist, composer, and actor.

The superstar graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in 1979 and was influenced by late Egyptian music legend Baligh Hamdy, who trained Haggar, Mohamed Mounir and Mohamed el-Helw in band “el-Takht”, which was formed in the Arabic Music Institution.

During his career, El-Haggar worked with famous composers and songwriters.

He also performed duets with many singers such as Mohamed El-Helw, Hanan Mady, Angham, and others.

His musical repertoire includes popular songs such as “Hona al-Qahera” (Here is Cairo), “Am Batata” (Mr. Batata), and “Dehket al-Masagen” (The Prisoners’ Laughter).

In 1978, another important phase in El-Haggar's professional life was taken when he made his first collaboration with his brother, composer-singer Ahmed El-Haggar in his brother’s hit song "Ozoriny".

The success that this song achieved sparked El-Haggar's singing career.

The brothers have co-operated in many other songs, Ahmed El-Haggar as composer and Ali El-Haggar as a lyricist, such as "Bahebek", "Ana Biki Ya Samra Akon", "El-Ahlam", "Kont Faker", "Tesaaliny", "Lama El-Sheta Edo’o El-Biban", "Ma Tekdebish", "Ergaaily", "Lessa El-Kalam", and "Ya Masria".
