On Sunday, Algerian Prime Minister Abdelaziz Djerad received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on the occasion of the country's mass vaccination campaign.

Djerad was vaccinated with the Russian Sputnik V vaccine. He told reporters that the vaccines will be available for all Algerian people, asserting the necessity of establishing a platform for organizing the process of vaccination.

2 days ago, the Algerian government announced the final dates of the national vaccination campaign against  COVID-19 in the country.

The campaign kicked off on Saturday, a day after receiving the first shipment of the Russian vaccine “Sputnik V.”

The state-owned channel “Al Thaletha” said that the first shipment of the Sputnik V vaccine arrived in the state’s Boufarik Airport on Friday.

Blida’s hospital was the first place to witness the vaccination while the medical workers were the earliest persons to be vaccinated followed by old-aged people according to the Minister of Communication and the government’s spokesman Ammar Belhimer.

Blida was the earliest city in Algeria that witnessed a tragic outbreak of the COVID-19 last March, leading to isolating the city.
