In a breaking news announcement from the Algerian presidency, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has declared his intention to run for a new term. This news was reported by Cairo News Channel, citing sources from the Algerian presidential office.

President Tebboune has signed a presidential decree calling for an early presidential election to be held on Saturday, September 7, according to the Algerian newspaper El Bilad.

The presidential statement indicated that, in accordance with the constitution, particularly Articles 85 and 91, paragraphs 7, 10, and 11, as well as Articles 62, paragraph 2, and 246 of the order issued on March 10, 2021, which includes the organic law related to the electoral system in Algeria, as amended and supplemented, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune signed the presidential decree calling for the electorate to hold an early presidential election on September 7.

The decree also outlined the commencement of an exceptional review of the electoral lists starting next Wednesday, with the process scheduled to conclude on Thursday, June 27.
