Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has terminated the duties of his country's 7 consuls to France, following statements by the French president regarding Algeria.

The Algerian newspaper "Al-Shorouk" published the text of a presidential decree published in the latest issue of the Official Gazette, according to which he terminated the duties of the Consul General of Algeria to France Said Moussa.

The issue also included another decree, according to which the functions of the consuls in Toulouse Abdelhamid Ahmed Khoja were terminated, in Creteil Belkacem Mahmoudi, in Bontoire Hayat Maouj, and in Boubini Najah Baziz.

The duties of Mohamed Seoudi in Montpellier were also terminated, according to the same source.

According to the Oras website, the decree came "after statements made by French President Emmanuel Macron, during which he questioned the history of the Algerian nation's existence before French colonialism."

In response to Macron's statements, Algeria recalled its ambassador to France and closed its airspace to French military aircraft operating in the framework of "Operation Barkhane" in the African coast.
