Algeria successfully launched a new remote sensing satellite on Saturday, using a Chinese Long March-2C rocket from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China.
The rocket lifted off at 04:01 GMT, placing the satellite into its planned orbit.
The satellite is expected to support land use planning, disaster prevention, and mitigation efforts across Algeria.
This marks the latest in Algeria’s growing space program. The country first launched the ALSAT-1 Earth observation satellite in 2002, followed by ALSAT-2A and ALSAT-2B in 2010 and 2016. In 2017, Algeria launched Alcomsat-1, a communications satellite, from the Xichang launch site in China’s Sichuan province.
