Hundreds of residents and visitors gathered in downtown Alexandria as the “Street of Art” festival transformed the city’s historic Nabi Daniel Street into an open-air cultural venue, showcasing music, performances and interactive activities aimed at bringing art closer to the public.
Organized by Egypt’s General Authority for Cultural Palaces in cooperation with Alexandria Governorate as part of the “Culture in the Street” initiative, the two-day event featured a diverse program of artistic and cultural performances designed to engage audiences of all ages.
The festival opened with a concert by the Abu Qir Arabic Music Ensemble, which performed a selection of traditional Egyptian and Arab songs. The program also included a performance by the Challenge Performing Arts Troupe for people with special needs, highlighting artistic talent and promoting social inclusion. Visitors also watched artists create a large mural depicting Alexandria’s history, heritage and cultural identity.
On the second day, activities focused on children and young audiences. The Anfoushi Children’s Choir presented musical performances, while the Boukly Children’s Folk Arts Group showcased traditional Egyptian folklore through dance and theatrical presentations. The Shatby Children’s Performing Arts Group also delivered a series of entertainment and cultural performances.
In addition to stage performances, the festival featured storytelling workshops, art workshops and face-painting activities, providing children with opportunities to develop their creativity and engage directly with artists and cultural practitioners.
The event attracted significant public participation, with families gathering along the historic street to enjoy the performances and interactive activities. Organizers said the initiative aims to expand access to culture by taking artistic programs beyond traditional theaters and cultural venues and into public spaces.
Nabi Daniel Street, one of Alexandria’s most prominent cultural landmarks, has long been associated with the city’s intellectual and artistic life. Its selection as the venue for the festival reflected efforts to connect contemporary cultural activities with Alexandria’s rich historical heritage.
The festival concluded with strong public engagement and positive feedback from attendees, underscoring the growing appeal of community-based cultural events and reinforcing the role of arts and culture in promoting creativity, social cohesion and public awareness.
The event was held under the slogan, “Together We Create Beauty, Joy and Awareness,” reflecting the broader goal of making culture accessible to all members of society.
