Authorities in Alexandria raised the governorate's state of readiness to its highest level after nearly 1.5 million visitors flocked to the city's beaches, prompting intensified safety measures and extensive field inspections during one of the busiest days of the summer season.
Governor Ayman Attia announced that all beaches across Alexandria have been placed under maximum operational readiness as part of a comprehensive plan to ensure a safe and well-managed summer season. The initiative aims to enhance public services, safeguard beachgoers, and maintain strict compliance with regulations governing beach operations.
The governor stressed that authorities are adopting a zero-tolerance approach toward violations, instructing inspection teams to respond immediately to any breaches without exception.
From the early hours of Friday, Alexandria's coastline witnessed a surge in visitors arriving from across Egypt. Occupancy levels reached 100% at many beaches in the eastern sector, reflecting exceptionally high demand during the peak summer period.
To manage the influx, the Central Administration for Tourism and Summer Resorts deployed inspectors and monitoring teams across both the eastern and western beach sectors. Officials conducted continuous inspections to verify the presence of lifeguards, ensure rescue equipment was fully operational, and confirm compliance with all safety and operational requirements.
Inspection teams also monitored closed beaches to prevent unauthorized access, citing public safety concerns.
The intensified inspection campaign resulted in several enforcement actions. Authorities confiscated prohibited items, including water pipes (shisha) and other banned materials, removed individuals found carrying restricted items, and ordered the reimbursement of visitors after detecting ticket pricing violations.
In addition, several beach operators were instructed to correct regulatory breaches involving warning flags, pricing boards, and complaint information displays. Authorities also refunded fees that had been unlawfully charged for restroom use, while documenting violations ahead of legal action against those responsible.
As part of Alexandria's broader social inclusion efforts, the governorate's "Champions of Challenge" Beach, designated for people with disabilities, welcomed 75 visitors with disabilities, providing comprehensive support and services to ensure a safe and enjoyable recreational experience.
Governor Attia affirmed that executive agencies remain on duty throughout the day under an integrated monitoring system designed to oversee beach operations, enforce regulations, protect visitors' rights, and ensure service standards remain consistent during the peak tourism season.
