Minister of Culture Dr. Enas Abdel Dayem and Dr. Magdy Saber, President of the Egyptian Opera House, will honor 9 Alexandrian figures who contributed to enriching the cultural and artistic arenas in Egypt and the Arab world.
The honoring will take place tomorrow, August 16th, at 8pm during the opening of the Summer Opera Festival at Sayed Darwish Theater "Alexandria Opera" with Baghdady Band scheduled to perform.
Abdel Dayem affirmed that the Opera Festival in Sayed Darwish Theater implies the significance of selecting serious and meaningful arts which include noble values and high meanings.
The minister noted that the honoring of the art figures come as a solid grounded tradition in art society which indicate cherishing those who build the nation through creativity.
Among the honorees are Sami Fathalla and Engineer Abdel Rahman Nassar, members of the Alexandria Opera Board, the late Mohamed Ghoneim, former undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Maestro Abdel Hamid Abdel Ghaffar, the leader of the Alexandria Opera Band for Arab Music and Singing, the great performer Ali El-gendy, the musician Mohamed Ali Suleiman, and Dr. Nivine El Mahmoudy, artistic director of Alexandria Opera Orchestra, Samir Sabry, Sami Mahmoud, former director of Sayed Darwish Theater, Alexandria Opera.
The honoring ceremony will be followed by an artistic concert by Baghdadi Big Band, led by Maestro Magdy Baghdadi, which will perform a collection of world famous jazz works as well as selections of Arabic music, which have been reformulated in the form of jazz.
The summer opera festival in Sayed Darwish Theater in Alexandria lasts until Friday 6th September and includes 9 concerts for a number of music and singing stars: Baghdadi Big Band, Mai Farouk, Marimba player Nesma Abdel Aziz, Marwa Nagy and Maestro Alaa Yassin band, Ali El Haggar and Tunisian Ghalia Ben Ali. Mohamed Mohsen, Khaled Selim and Medhat Saleh, all accompanied by famous pianist Amr Selim and his band.
