On Tuesday, President Alexander Lukashenko took the oath of office for his seventh term as the President of Belarus.
According to the Belarusian news agency (BelTA), the inauguration ceremony took place at the Independence Palace in the capital Minsk, with more than 1,100 people in attendance.
The ceremony was opened by Igor Karpenko, the head of the Belarusian Central Election Commission, who announced that Lukashenko was assuming the presidency with the will of the Belarusian people following free and democratic elections.
Lukashenko pledged to serve the Belarusian people, respect and protect their rights, and uphold the freedoms of citizens, as well as respect and protect the constitution.
Lukashenko won a majority of votes in the presidential elections held on January 26, securing 86.82% of the vote.
