Albania has officially joined the global parliamentary alliance that supports Israel, becoming the sixty-fourth country to take part in the initiative.
The country is set to launch its pro-Israel parliamentary caucus at the Albanian Parliament in Tirana on Monday.
The new caucus will work in cooperation with the International Coalition of Pro-Israel Parliamentary Groups, with the aim of strengthening faith-based diplomacy and enhancing political and diplomatic relations with Israel.
The caucus is co-chaired by Romina Kuko from the Socialist Party and Gazmend Bardhi from the Democratic Party, marking a rare instance of collaboration between representatives from opposing political blocs.
Analysts have noted that this initiative reflects Albania’s long-standing history of support for the Jewish people and for Israel.
The launch ceremony is expected to include the official signing of the parliamentary resolution establishing the pro-Israel caucus.
Albania holds a unique place in European history as the only country that ended the Second World War with a higher number of Jewish residents than before the war. During the Nazi occupation, Albanians risked their lives to shelter and protect Jewish refugees, an act that remains a source of national pride.
In recent years, Albania has maintained a supportive stance toward Israel in international forums, often abstaining from votes on United Nations resolutions perceived as biased against the country.
Observers highlight that Albania’s participation in the global pro-Israel parliamentary alliance builds upon its moral and historical legacy of protecting Jewish communities.
