The Arab company for Pharmaceutical Industries and Medical Supplies "Academia Egypt" announced that Dr. Ibrahim Al-Sherbini, Director of the Materials Science Research Center in Zewail, won the award of the best scientific research in Applied Pharmaceutical Sciences with one of the other participating research teams.

A team of researchers under the leadership of Sherbini developed innovative types of smart wound dressings, which depend on the presence of nanoparticles loaded with active substances distributed within the nanometric fibers, to deliver the drug in a controlled manner to the affected area with the possibility of using a single bandage to complete the process of healing.

Al-Sherbini expressed his happiness with the award and said that the manufacture of bandages using nanofibromes can provide the advantages that make the wound bandage ideal.

The winning research was published in the prestigious journal ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces. Ibrahim Al-Sherbini, researcher Esra Ali, and Dr. Islam Khalil. This winning study is part of a major project on which Al-Sherbini Research Group is working to develop smart and more efficient dressings and wound treatments for diabetics.

This award is given annually to the best scientific research submitted by a researcher or a group of researchers after being arbitrated by a committee of specialists.

The prize aims to encourage Arab researchers in applied pharmaceutical sciences and to create an atmosphere of positive scientific competition and innovation to boost the pharmaceutical industry.
