Arab League (AL) Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit welcomed the signing of a one-week-long ceasefire between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Jeddah.
On his part, Jamal Rushdi, the official spokesman for AL Secretary-General, stressed the necessity of implementing this agreement and its pledges.
In a joint press conference, Saudi Arabia and US announced, Saturday, that representatives of both Sudanese parties signed an agreement on a Short-Term Ceasefire and Humanitarian Arrangements in Jeddah.
The ceasefire, which is set to come into effect late Monday, shall remain in effect for seven days and may be extended with the agreement of both parties.
