Secretary-General of Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, met with Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs, to discuss the developments in Somalia and the Horn of Africa region.
Jamal Rushdy, the official spokesperson for the Secretary-General, stated that the meeting is part of ongoing consultation and coordination between the General Secretariat and Somalia regarding the latest developments in supporting Somalia’s sovereignty and stability, especially concerning the agreement between Somaliland and Ethiopia, which has previously been the subject of clear decisions from the Arab League Council.
The spokesperson added that Aboul Ghiet emphasized the Arab League's commitment to stand by Somalia in facing any pressures or challenges that threaten its sovereignty and territorial integrity, noting that the Arab League has affirmed this in all its relevant resolutions.
He also expressed the League’s support for all efforts of the federal government in enhancing and activating national dialogue to achieve the interests and aspirations of the Somali people.
