Arab League (AL) Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, received on Tuesday, Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
During the meeting, Aboul Gheit listened to a detailed explanation by UNRWA official on the conditions of Palestinian refugees, and the challenges that the agency faces at the financial level.
On his part, Aboul Gheit expressed his full support for Commissioner-General's efforts to overcome financial difficulties and to ensure that UNRWA continues to provide its services to about 5.5 million Palestine refugees.
He added that UNRWA's work represents a safety valve for stability in the entire region, underling the need to bridg the funding gap in UNRWA's budget, which amounts to $70 million.
It is scheduled that, UNRWA Commissioner-General is expected to deliver a short speech before the meeting of Arab League, at the ministerial level, which will be held tomorrow at the headquarters of the secretariat.
