Masry's football director Abdel-Zaher El-Saqqa said on Sunday that sixteen players and members of the team have tested positive for coronavirus after the Egyptian club took the coronavirus swabs from the players.

"12 players and four members of the technical staff contracted coronavirus," El-Saqqa told Egyptian media.

He called upon the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) to postpone their upcoming clash in the Premier League against  Haras El-Hodoud, which is set to be held on Monday.

Masry are the second club to confirm more than a dozen coronavirus cases after El-Entag El-Harby, who had their match against FC Masr rescheduled after 19 players and non-playing staff had tested positive.

After being given the green light by the government to resume the league competition, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) ordered all clubs to runPCR tests ahead of every game. The domestic competition restarted on Thursday after a five-month hiatus due to the pandemic.
