Egypt’s Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, Rania Al-Mashat, participated as Guest of Honor in a commemorative ceremony held by the Defense Office at the Egyptian Embassy in Brussels to mark the anniversary of Egypt’s historic October Victories.
The event, held on the sidelines of the Global Gateway Forum 2025, was attended by Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, Egypt’s Ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg, the European Union, and NATO, brought together representatives from the EU and NATO, members of the diplomatic community, Egyptian expatriates, and officials from the commercial representation office. It coincided with Dr. Al-Mashat’s participation in the Global Gateway Forum, a flagship EU-led initiative taking place in Brussels from October 8–10, aimed at deepening strategic partnerships and investments globally.
In her address at the ceremony, Al-Mashat described the October Victory as a timeless national milestone that embodies the valor, resilience, and dedication of the Egyptian Armed Forces in protecting the homeland and defending Egypt’s dignity. She praised the armed forces not only for their military achievements but also for their ongoing contributions to Egypt’s development, social stability, and economic growth.
“This day reflects the strength of our national spirit and the unity of the Egyptian people,” Al-Mashat said, adding that the October Victory remains a source of inspiration as Egypt continues to confront modern-day challenges and pursue its path of reconstruction and development. She emphasized the importance of standing united behind Egypt’s leadership and armed forces to safeguard the country’s progress and sovereignty.
The Minister also highlighted the government’s unwavering commitment to economic reform, noting that despite successive regional and global shocks, Egypt is continuing along its development trajectory. She reaffirmed that the government remains focused on structural and economic reforms aimed at enhancing macroeconomic stability, improving the investment climate, and attracting sustainable foreign direct investment.
Dr. Al-Mashat shared that Egypt’s economy recorded 4.4% growth in the fiscal year 2024/2025, driven by strong performance in key sectors including non-oil manufacturing, tourism, and communications and information technology. She pointed to the launch of “Egypt’s Narrative for Economic Development,” a national reform program that extends beyond fiscal policy to address real economy sectors and structural challenges through a clear implementation timeline.
The Minister also praised the Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership Agreement signed between Egypt and the European Union in March 2024. She described the agreement as a key turning point in the relationship between both sides, laying a foundation for joint work on shared priorities such as economic cooperation, political engagement, migration management, education, trade and investment, security, and human capital development.
