Al-Mashat Meets ABTA Officials during WTM London

Tourism Minister Dr. Rania Al-Mashat held on Monday a meeting with officials of the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) on the fringe of her participation in the 2019 World Travel Market in London, which kicked off on Tuesday till Wednesday.

The officials were ABTA Director of Destinations & Sustainability Nikki White and Senior Destinations Manager, Health, Safety Crisis, and Operations Angie Hills. 

At the beginning of the meeting, Al-Mashat stressed the importance of British tourism for Egyptian destinations, pointing out that the UK decision on lifting the ban on direct flights to Sharm El-Sheikh proves that Egypt enjoys stability and security, a matter which increases the flock of British tourists to Egypt. 

Al-Mashat said that the Egyptian tourism sector gained praise globally, mentioning Egypt's winning of the WTTC Global Champion Award this year and its steady growth with a percentage of 16.3%, exceeding the global average of 3.9%.

"The Tourism Ministry is keen on developing the provided services to the tourists especially services related to ensuring safety and quality in the hotels, a matter which comes in line with the goals of the Egypt-Tourism Reform Program (E-TRP)," the minister noted.

She referred to the fruitful meeting between a delegation of the Egyptian Tourism Federation and the Egypt Hotels Association and ABTA officials in London during which they discussed what the ministry had accomplished in cooperation with Preverisk Group -an international consultancy group, servicing the tourism sector. 

The Egyptian delegation and Preverish agreed on conducting a comprehensive check on the hotels in Hurghada as a first phase then applying it at all the Egyptian tourist cities including Sharm El-Sheikh to raise the quality of the hotel services. 

Al-Mashat, during the meeting, talked about launching the New Hospitality Criteria for the Egyptian hotels such as eco-friendly lodges, Dahabeya, apartment hotels, and environmental safari camps, floating hotels, and heritage hotels.

ABTA officials lauded the remarkable improvement in the number of tourists to Egypt, expressing their happiness for the UK decision. 

They pointed out that there is a growing demand for the Egyptian destinations which are considered the favorite for them, adding the coming tourist session will witness more flocking tourists to Egypt.
