Al-Mashat: Egypt's Partnership with Saudi Arabia Strengthened Development Efforts in Sinai

During the annual meetings of the African Development Bank in Sharm El-Sheikh, the Minister of International Cooperation, H.E. Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat, and CEO of the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), ​​Sultan Al-Marshad visited the King Salman International University in Sharm El-Sheikh, in light of following up on the results of developing partnerships between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with an affirmation of the distinguished relations between the two sides.

 This visit included the participation of Assistant Minister of International Cooperation for Arab Funds, Ghadir Hejazi, Assistant to the Minister of Higher Education & Scientific Research for Economic Policies and Affairs, Mohamed Ramadan, and Assistant Foreign Minister for African Affairs, Ambassador Abu Bakr Mahmoud.

In her speech, Al-Mashat welcomed Al-Marshad who is visiting Sharm El-Sheikh as part of the activities of the annual meetings of the AfDB, stressing the distinguished and historical relations between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which had great impact in pushing development efforts in the governorates of North and South Sinai.

Al-Mashat highlighted the importance of the KSIU project, because of its strong impact on enhancing investment efforts in human capital, and building on the efforts implemented by the state in this field, in addition to the partnerships that are constantly being implemented with multilateral and bilateral development partners. H.E. noted that the project promotes the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 4: Quality Education by ensuring opportunities for quality, equitable and inclusive education for all, in addition to the SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.

She said that the Ministry of International Cooperation is keen to enhance coordination and joint efforts between the national authorities on the one hand and the multilateral and bilateral development partners on the other hand, to maximize the returns from development cooperation projects and programs and achieve the desired goals.

For his part, Al-Mashat said, "I am pleased to be with you to witness the developments of the project, which the SFD implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of International Cooperation, and we hope that it will have a positive impact on achieving development in the Sinai region and enhancing quality education opportunities."

During the visit, Prof. Ashraf Hussein, President of KSIU, welcomed Al-Mashat and Al-Marshad, pointing out that KSIU has three branches in Sharm El-Sheikh, Al-Tur and Ras-Sidr, and each branch is distinguished by the diversity of the number of colleges and education programs that suit the labor market and the nature of the environment. The three branches include 15 colleges and 56 programs, including 3 smart programs, 28 of which have been offered so far, and the total number of students studying in the three branches is scheduled to reach 5,000 students during the next year, aiming to reach the target of 25 thousand students at the university.

Hussein pointed out that KSIU is one of the fourth-generation universities, which includes uncommon majors to take advantage of the nature of Sinai Governorate, with the presence of the Faculty of Desert Agriculture, in addition to tourism and hospitality, and it is also intended that the university branch in Al-Tur city be a medical center where Includes medicine, dentistry and nursing specialities.

The KSIU is one of the pioneering projects implemented in cooperation between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, within the framework of the King Salman bin Abdulaziz Program for the Development of the Sinai Peninsula.
