Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, met with Hisham Azmy, Head of the Egyptian Intellectual Property Authority, to discuss the ministry’s support for implementing Egypt’s National Intellectual Property Strategy.
The meeting addressed collaboration in international projects, including the Korean-funded plan to automate the patent system, which is expected to improve registration speed and access to IP data.
The discussion also covered the Authority’s role in raising awareness among startups and supporting the broader entrepreneurship environment, as part of the government’s efforts to promote innovation and improve Egypt’s business climate.
Al-Mashat said intellectual property and entrepreneurship are essential to economic development and stressed the importance of legislation that protects creators' rights and boosts competitiveness.
The meeting reviewed upcoming projects aimed at expanding the Authority’s operational capacity and improving service delivery in line with its strategic objectives.
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi approved the establishment of the Egyptian Intellectual Property Authority in 2023 as a public body to oversee and protect IP rights in line with Egypt’s international commitments and national development goals.
