Al-Mashat Casts Ballot in 2nd Phase of Parliamentary Election

Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of International Cooperation, cast her vote on Sunday at Fatima Annan polling station located in the Fifth Settlement in New Cairo.

This comes on the second day of voting in the second phase of the 2020 House of Representatives elections.

Al-Mashat urged citizens for participation in order for the Egyptian Parliament to complete its two chambers (Senate and representatives), to fulfill their role in parliamentary life.

Today is the second and last day of the second phase of the House of Representatives elections 2020, which began on Saturday, after it ended abroad, on Friday, as it continued over the past three days.

Voting inside the electoral commissions continues from nine in the morning until nine in the evening, provided that the precautionary measures are observed during the voting process by wearing a masks and maintaining social distancing.

The National Elections Authority has determined the dates for holding the elections in the second phase in 13 governorates, namely: Cairo, Qalyubia, Dakahlia, Menoufia, Gharbia, Kafr El Sheikh, Sharkia, Damietta , Port Said, Ismailia, Suez, North Sinai, South Sinai.

As for the second phase, the first round of Egyptians abroad was on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, corresponding to 4, 5 and 6 November, provided that the results are announced and published in the Official Gazette no later than Sunday 15 November.

In the single system, 2085 candidates in 70 inpidual constituencies are competing in this stage, while the number of candidates in the list system in the second stage is 284 main candidates.

As for the list system, there is the National List for Egypt that competes with the Independents ’Alliance list in the Cairo Sector, South and Central Delta district for 100 seats.

The House of Representatives is composed of 568 members, elected by direct, secret, general vote of 284 seats in the single system, and 284 seats by closed and absolute lists and the President of the Republic has the right to appoint a percentage not exceeding 5% of the members.
