Al-Mashat: 98% of Ministry's Projects on Right Track without Constraints

Minister of International Cooperation Dr. Rania Al-Mashat said on Wednesday 98% of the projects, which the International Cooperation Ministry supervises, are on the right track in implementation with no constraints.

Al-Mashat was addressing the plenary session of the House of Representatives, chaired by Hanafi Gebaly, the ministry said in a statement.

Al-Mashat pointed out that since the beginning of 2020, the Ministry has made several strides in structural reforms and restructuring the ministry to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in following up ongoing projects.

This comes within the framework of the ministry’s Presidential Decree No. 303 of 2004, which is to follow-up and monitor national agencies that benefit from foreign development financing within the framework of the general economic policy of the country to achieve national development priorities.

“The reorganization of the General Administration responsible for the supervision of the projects financed by the development partners is crucial to increase their efficiency; moreover, 98% of the financed projects are progressing adequately, as per planned;” Al-Mashat stated.

The minister added during the plenary session today that throughout the year, from March 2020 until December 2020, the ministry organized several multi-stakeholder platforms to bring together all different multilateral and bilateral partners to coordinate and streamline development goals according to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals, which is eventually presented to the premier periodically to review challenges and progress.

She noted that the results of the periodic meetings and monitoring revealed that in January 2020, the percentage of projects that faced challenges in their implementation was 28%, and by the end of December 2020 this decreased to only 2% and that about 98% of the projects are on the right track in implementation with no constraints.

According to the annual report by the ministry in 2020, the ministry secured development financing agreements worth $9.8 billion during the year; $6.7 billion for financing sovereign projects, and $3.1 billion in support of the private sector.
