Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Riyad Al-Maliki, called for the necessity of working to support the universality of human rights, and the compatibility of national and foreign policies, to avoid the double standards that we are witnessing in Gaza now.

He said during his speech, today, Tuesday, at the session of the Human Rights Council, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the issuance of the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights, in the Swiss city of Geneva, that Palestinian human rights have been violated for 75 years, most notably the right to life and the right to self-determination, and that The crimes and attacks of the Israeli occupation violate all provisions of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights9.

He added, "I represent a people who have been deprived of their basic rights to life, dignity and self-determination, among many other rights, for 75 years, and we gather today to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which coincides with the suffering of at least one million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip." Gaza, half of whom are children, are starving due to Israel's deliberate use of starvation as a weapon of war against the people it occupies, in light of international silence and acceptance of Israeli conditions for the entry of food, water, fuel and medicines.

Al-Maliki explained that the transformation of schools, markets, hospitals and squares into mass graves in Gaza, the killing of more than 8,000 children and the injury of thousands, and Israel’s refusal to stop the massacres threaten the declaration and all the progress that has been achieved globally over the past decades.

He pointed out that the existing international system tolerated the selective application of the responsibility to respect human rights and international humanitarian law at the expense of a very large number of innocent lives, and that it is unacceptable to allow exceptional treatment of rogue states such as Israel as a state above international law and far from accountability.

Al-Maliki stressed Palestine's commitment to international standards, as a state party to seven United Nations human rights treaties and seven additional protocols.

Al-Maliki called for greater global solidarity and action than ever before to ensure that the Palestinian people obtain their basic rights to life, justice, dignity and self-determination, and to work to protect them from the atrocities committed against them.
