In a significant development in Sudan's ongoing military strife, Sudanese Army Chief General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan firmly rejected a recently signed agreement between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and certain political groups. General al-Burhan pledged to continue the war, which has been ongoing for nine months, in a speech delivered at the Jebait military base in Eastern Sudan.

Refusal of Peace Accords with RSF

General al-Burhan emphasized that there would be no reconciliation or agreements with the Rapid Support Forces. He referred to the military's campaign as the "Battle of Dignity," aiming to reclaim all of Sudan. In his speech, broadcasted by the Sovereignty Council on Telegram, he accused the RSF of committing "war crimes" and stated that the army's dealings with them would occur "on the battlefield."

Call for Citizens' Armament

Furthermore, General al-Burhan encouraged the arming of citizens for self-defense, suggesting they purchase weapons or join the armed forces. He highlighted that Sudan is facing a critical juncture, a choice between existence and non-existence. He expressed regret that "some politicians applaud Hamidti (RSF leader Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo) despite his involvement in killings." He also criticized neighboring countries for welcoming the RSF leader.

Condemnation of Political Agreements with RSF

Al-Burhan also condemned the politicians who reached an agreement with the RSF, declaring such agreements unacceptable and urging political forces to engage in dialogue with the military in Port Sudan.

The Rapid Support Forces and Civil Democratic Forces Agreement

On Tuesday, the RSF and the Civil Democratic Forces Coordination (TQDM) announced the signing of the "Addis Ababa Declaration," aiming to halt the war in the country. According to this declaration, the RSF is ready to immediately and unconditionally cease hostilities through direct negotiations with the Sudanese Army.

Both parties of the "Addis Ababa Declaration" emphasized the need for sustainable peace in Sudan, based on the critical step of ending the multiplicity of armies and forming a single, professional army that represents everyone.
