Al-Azhar Al-Sharif condemns the acts of violence led by the British far-right against Muslims and targeting mosques after the spread of social media misinformation about the identity of the perpetrator of the Southport crime, including the false claim that he is a Muslim immigrant.
Al-Azhar highlights the need to firmly confront such attacks aiming to incite anti-Muslim hatred and spread terror and fear among a large segment of British citizens. It also stresses the need to protect Muslims from the attacks induced by this dangerous trend that seeks to spread chaos and apply the law to all without discrimination.
Al-Azhar expresses its appreciation for the British government’s position represented in the statements of Mr. Keir Starmer, the British Prime Minister, and Ms. Yvette Cooper, the British Home Secretary, to reassure Muslims and maintain their commitment to protecting them, enhancing the protection of mosques, their rejection of all manifestations of far-right anti-Muslim hatred and racism. and their pledge to impose deterrent punishment on all participants in the riots, directing thanks to the British police for their decisive stance against this systematic anti-Muslim campaign.
