The summit is hosted by the Center for Interfaith Dialogue in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, under the patronage of H.E. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kazakhstan.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ad-Duwaini, Deputy of Al-Azhar, heads Al-Azhar’s high-level delegation, which includes Dr. Nahla As-Saeedi, Adviser to the Grand Imam for International Students’ Affairs and Head of the Education Development Center for International Students; Ambassador Abd-ur-Rahman Musa, Adviser to the Grand Imam for Foreign Affairs; Dr. Mahmoud Seddiq, Vice President of Al-Azhar University for Postgraduate Studies; and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Al-Jundi, Secretary-General of the Islamic Research Academy.
Al-Azhar’s participation comes in response to an official invitation from President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to His Eminence the Grand Imam to visit Kazakhstan and take part in the inauguration of the Eighth Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions. The previous edition of the congress in 2022 witnessed the historic joint presence of His Eminence the Grand Imam Ahmad At-Tayyeb and His Holiness Pope Francis.
The Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions in Kazakhstan is a major international event held regularly in Astana, aiming to promote dialogue among religious leaders in addressing social, cultural, and religious challenges. The summit gathers representatives of different religions and, alongside official discussions, includes symbolic activities reflecting the values of peace and coexistence.
