The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Sheikh Ahmed Al-Tayyeb, on Tuesday received a high-level delegation of ministers of awqaf, Islamic affairs officials and muftis from several Muslim countries, stressing the need for the ethical use of artificial intelligence in serving societies.
Speaking at Al-Azhar headquarters, Al-Tayyeb called for preparing qualified religious scholars capable of engaging with AI technologies to maximize their benefits for humanity while addressing their risks. The delegation is attending the 36th Conference of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, held under the theme “Professions in Islam: Their Ethics, Impact, and Future in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.”
Al-Tayyeb highlighted Al-Azhar’s role in promoting peace locally and globally, citing initiatives such as the Egyptian Family House and interfaith dialogue efforts, including the 2019 Human Fraternity document signed with Pope Francis.
Delegates praised Al-Azhar’s global role in countering extremism and promoting coexistence.
