On Monday, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif, Dr. Ahmad At-Tayyeb received at the Headquarters of Al-Azhar Counselor Mahmoud Al-Habbash, Chief Justice of Palestine, and Adviser to the Palestinian President for Religious Affairs and Islamic Relations.
The meeting tackled ways to boost Al-Azhar's educational support for the Palestinian people.
The Grand Imam averred that the expansion of the establishment of Al-Azhar institutes in Palestine and the increase in Al-Azhar educational scholarships for Palestinian students is a form of the Azhari support for the Palestinian people’s resistance and their legitimate steadfastness in their struggle against the Zionist occupation.
The Grand Imam also emphasized that mainstreaming the cause of Jerusalem and the rights of the Palestinian people is among the priorities adopted by Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif.
He added that Al-Azhar seeks to mainstream global awareness regarding this pivotal issue for the Muslim world. Therefore, he confirmed, that the educational curricula at Al-Azhar include awareness-raising texts and topics regarding the Palestinian cause, with the purpose of instilling it in the hearts and minds of students at an early stage. This is meant to immunize the youth against the evils of Zionist media platforms that attempt to falsify facts and publish false historical and social narratives with the aim of changing the Palestinian historical and geographical reality.
For his part, Dr. Al-Habbash expressed his pleasure to meet with the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, conveying to him the greetings of the Palestinian President and his appreciation for the educational support provided by Al-Azhar to the Palestinian people.
He also noted that the Palestinian graduates from Al-Azhar have largely contributed to the preservation of the community fabric and of the Palestinian identity.
Dr. Al-Habbash concluded that the Palestinians trust Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif and are keen to enroll their children in it so that they benefit from its authentic sources of knowledge
