The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Ahmad El-Tayeb, received, Mr. Uk Saron, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Cambodia to Cairo, to discuss ways of enhancing cooperation in Academic and Da’wah fields.
The Grand Imam expressed Al-Azhar’s pride in its close relationship with the Kingdom of Cambodia, noting that Cambodian international students have played a key role in deepening and advancing this relationship. Currently, 122 Cambodian students are studying at Al-Azhar, including 97 on Al-Azhar scholarships. In addition, 22 scholarships are offered annually for enrollment at Al-Azhar University.
His Eminence also reiterated Al-Azhar's readiness to host Cambodian imams for training at the Al-Azhar International Academy for Training Imams and Preachers. The training focuses on equipping them to address contemporary challenges, such as refuting extremist ideologies, promoting peaceful coexistence and positive integration, and responding to misconceptions about Islam—particularly those related to the status of women.
For his part, the Cambodian ambassador expressed his country's deep appreciation for the Grand Imam's leading role in promoting a culture of human fraternity and global coexistence. He affirmed that Al-Azhar is highly respected by the Cambodian people and remains a distinguished destination for Muslim students seeking knowledge.
