On Tuesday, Al-Azhar Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed El-Tayyeb mourned victims of Tabuk accident, as a bus carrying 16 Egyptians heading for Mecca to perform Umrah overturned in northwestern Saudi Arabia.
A number of people were killed and wounded in the accident.
In a statement, El-Tayyeb offered his deep condolences to the victims' families, wishing a speedy recovery for the injured.
On its part, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the Egyptian consulate had contacts with the local authorities in Saudi Arabia to finalize procedures required to transport bodies of the dead Egyptians to the homeland.
“Contacts are underway with the injured to offer all support for them,” the ministry added.
