Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif received Comoros Foreign Minister Mbae Mohamed in Cairo to discuss expanding Al-Azhar educational and religious support for students from the island nation.
Al-Tayeb highlighted Al-Azhar’s longstanding ties with Comoros, noting that the institution currently hosts 735 Comorian students and offers 40 annual scholarships. He said Al-Azhar is prepared to increase scholarship opportunities to meet the country’s educational and religious needs.
Mohamed, an Al-Azhar graduate, arrived with an official delegation composed entirely of Azhar alumni serving in diplomatic posts. He praised Al-Azhar’s role in supporting Muslim communities, particularly in Africa, and described studying at the institution as “a dream and great honor” for many Comorians.
