Al-Azhar Grand Imam, His Eminence Prof. Dr. Ahmad Al-Tayeb, urged world leaders to restore justice and moral conscience as the foundation of global peace during his address at the opening of the “Daring Peace” International Meeting in Rome, organized by the Community of Sant’Egidio.
Al-Tayeb warned that “the world has lost its moral compass,” citing wars, poverty, and environmental crises as symptoms of a civilization detached from justice. He condemned the ongoing tragedies in Gaza and Palestine as “wounds to humanity’s conscience” and praised nations recognizing the State of Palestine as “a triumph of justice.”
The Grand Imam highlighted the joint efforts of Al-Azhar, the Vatican, and the Muslim Council of Elders to finalize a Charter on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence, ensuring technology serves humanity rather than harms it.
He concluded that “justice is the supreme law of life, and peace its natural outcome.”
